Ruth Gripper, Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidate for Truro and Falmouth, has launched a campaign backing Cornwall Council's emergency climate plan and the new Forest for Cornwall.
In addition to planting 10 million trees as part of the Forest for Cornwall the emergency climate plan proposes:
- Energy efficiency improvements to Cornwall Housing homes, helping reduce fuel poverty for residents on low incomes.
- An increase in employment opportunities through the promotion of renewable energy, environmental growth and energy-efficient homes.
Ruth Gripper said: "I am really pleased to support this plan and hope local residents will too. A Forest for Cornwall will greatly increase canopy cover in Cornwall, helping to increase carbon capture and reduce the risk of flooding.
"The Forest will not only be great for the environment but will also provide a great leisure resource for local people.
"Although planting trees will never be a complete substitute for reducing carbon emissions it is a bold first step on our way to becoming a truly green peninsula.
